When starting an online business, most owners dream of financial success. Not so for Vera Reposa. She already had financial success which she’d built from scratch and grown to own five retail business locations when she began to dabble in online marketing.
“We were very successful with our business but I couldn't stand another minute of it,” recalls Vera, “I decided to sell off the business because my time was just not my own and my children were growing up before my eyes.” Though she hasn’t looked back since, it did take five years to complete the transition from offline business to operating completely online. She now owns Scrappers Talk Radio, & Scrap Venture, Scrap Venture Pro, and most recently purchased Small Business Branding. Offline success didn’t immediately translate into the online world. Like all business owners, Vera faced unexpected challenges along the way. “My biggest struggle was assuming that online business would be easier than starting an offline business. This is so far from the truth; I had it in my brain that I could type a bit on the computer and voila! I'd have the money coming in,” says Vera, “I realize now, that I have to put in just as much time and dedication as I did with a retail store, the BIG difference is I see my children all the time now.” That element of being home with the children has represented the biggest success to Vera. “I used to be gone out of the house from 8am-10pm almost daily,” she says. As she continues to learn how to balance and adjust to the reality of working from home, “I think the one tip I could give is to take time out for yourself and your children, just take time to breathe in life and enjoy it.” For those getting started she provides further guidance with the advice, “Be cautious with who you listen to and surround yourself with other successful business owners. Don't get sucked into thinking that it's easy just because you're starting your business on the internet. It takes time, dedication, and focus to get to your goals.” Vera credits much of her current success to finding mentors and coaches who can truly help you to achieve your goals. Crediting both Internet Based Moms and MomMasterminds as elements of her success, she says, “Internet Based Moms is a wonderful place for you to get solid information online. I share all my success with my girlfriends over at Mom Masterminds. I LOVE MM!” Proving that success is a joint effort even when it comes to home-based operations, in addition to the forums and information to be had at those websites, she adds, “I also highly recommend you to get business coaching with Kelly McCausey, Kelly has been instrumental in the shift in thinking I've had. Also, Alice Seba has the BEST courses ever; I always get a lot done when I listen to Alice.” Vera shares one final piece of advice for those who dream of working from home for more than hobby money or pocket change, “Dare to dream but plan to get to that dream. Don't share these dreams with anyone who will stamp it out for you, they don't have that right. Share your success with others who support you and believe in you.” |
